Student Spotlight: Lexie Ornelas

Lexie Ornelas is a third-year PhD student in the Department of Social, Behavioral, and Population Sciences at Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Her interest in violence prevention stems from her background in geography, and desire to better understand how place is associated with health. She is broadly interested in how the built and social environments are associated with youth firearm injury, with a particular interest in how social support may play a role in youth firearm beliefs and behaviors. 

Lexie Ornelas Lexie has been a SAVIR member since 2022 and is currently serving as a member on the Student and Early Career Professional (SECP) Committee. She most enjoys the networking opportunities that have stemmed from being an SECP member, both in terms of connecting with other students across the country and leading experts in the realm of injury and violence prevention. Lexie is newly married, and in her free time enjoys trying new restaurants with her husband and road tripping with their two dogs.
